The cities of Freiburg, Basel and Strasbourg each have a long standing history of immunology in basic and clinical research as well as in teaching. Intense scientific interactions exist since the 1960th, with the Basel Institute for Immunology, the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology in Freiburg and the University of Strasbourg being important and world-wide recognized institutions. One example of a joint activity of all three cities called “The Macrophage 1990” can be downloaded here.
Since 2014, immunologists working on various autoimmune diseases have met yearly for the Bed and Bench Immunology (BBI) meetings to foster teaching and networking in these areas.
A one-day meeting was held in Strasbourg on the 3rd of October 2016 with many different immunology laboratories participating. Another one-day meeting was held in Freiburg on the 14th December 2016 with scientific presentations to further such interactions in fundamental immunology.

Over 200 participants flocked to Basel to hear and discuss with bouqueted and young immunologists
